This month I travelled to 1889 Paris, attended MIT university, flew with a found-family crew in space while outrunning dangerous enemies, experienced New York City like never before, and so much more.
Reading truly is the cheapest form of travel.
I had a pretty good month with nine books read. And more than that—I liked most of the books that I read this month. Part of my New Year resolution is to read good books, to put quality over quantity. So far, so good.
I have written reviews for some of the books that I will mention in this wrap-up, and I’ll link them in case you want to check them out!
Okay, let’s start:
American Panda by Gloria Chao

Rating: 4.5/5
Recommend it? Absolutely! You can find my review here.
The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
Rating: 5/5
Recommend it? Do yourself a favour and read this masterpiece. Here’s my review if you’re interested to know more about my thoughts. The Poet X is probably one of my favourite reads this month! Maybe even the whole year.
Starflight by Melissa Landers

Rating: 3.5/5
Recommend it? It depends on your taste! I went into this expecting something and it didn’t quite deliver that. But if you’re into space, small and intimate crews, and action, then this might be the book for you!
Starfall by Melissa Landers—DNF

As you can see, I DNF this book. I tried to read it, but it felt like a fantasy when I was expecting a sci-fi. There were none of the things I loved in the first book. After about 100 pages, I had to stop. Which is disappointing since I was so excited to get a story about these two characters!
By Your Side by Kasie West

Rating: 4/5
Recommend it? Absolutely! It’s my first Kasie West book and it has inspired me to embark on a journey of reading all of Kasie West’s books. To record this, I’ve been writing mini-reviews of the books I’ve read and post them here. Here’s By Your Side’s!
The Distance Between Us by Kasie West
Rating: 4.5/5
Recommend it? If I liked By Your Side, then I loved this one. I’m a sucker for the unlikely/forbidden romance trope, and this book promised a great romance. Read my full thoughts in my review.
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

Rating: 5/5
Recommend it? This book is a masterpiece. It has been too long since I’ve read a new fantasy release in hardcover, but it has a certain feel to it that I’m glad I experienced with The Gilded Wolves. It lives up to the hype and more. My review isn’t out yet, but will be soon!
City Love by Susane Colasanti
Rating: 3/5
Recommend it? Not really. This book was not a masterpiece. It was okay. It felt like I was reading advertisements for the first few pages though, and there was a lot of telling. Like a lot. It was entertaining enough to pass the time but nothing that blew me away.
Lost in Love by Susane Colasanti
Rating: 3/5
Recommend it? Same like with City Love. I did like Rosanne and her development, but it’s exhausting to read this book at times. There’s so much telling. I did learn a lot about New York, so I guess that’s a perk.
P.S. I Like You by Kasie West
Rating: 5/5
Recommend it? This is by far my favourite Kasie West book! Granted I’ve only read three books of hers but still. The enemies to lovers trope is done so well here. Lily’s big family is well crafted, and really captures how it feels to be in a big family. I’m also a sucker for anonymous letters leading to love. This book was perfect. I probably won’t have the review up before the wrap-up, but keep an eye out for it in the coming days!
So here’s this month’s wrap-up! I’m pretty happy with these books and I can’t wait to see what books I’ll read next month!
What about you? What’s your favourite book you’ve read this month? Let’s talk in the comments!
Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
