After reading this book, it’s official—I want to be in a podcast class.
To be honest, this has inspired me to sign up for Video and Animation at my school next year, which includes audio production like podcasts. I don’t know if it’ll fit with the rest of my schedule, but I’ll certainly try to get it!
Anyways, I really enjoyed this book. After a few Kasie West misses, I’m glad I’ve been reading some great hits.
SPOILERS BEYOND THE QUOTE
I wondered if life was about facing fears. Sometimes we overcame them and sometimes they overcame us. On the days we won, we had every right to celebrate.
Okay, so let me start with saying that I loved the whole “does he like me” “no he likes my friend” drama. It was so teenager that I really enjoyed it. I feel like if you’re reading a lot of YA fantasy, it can get pretty dark. But then books like Listen to Your Heart can bring you right back to the present and shows you a glimpse of teenager life.
Not that all teenagers live near a lake and attend podcasting class, and get a guy like Diego to fall in love with them. But hey, one can dream.
ANYWAYS. I had a lot of fun following the story. Diego was a adorable, and I must be honest—I thought of Dora first when I saw his name. Except I’m a huge NOT fan of Dora. To this day, she is my most hated cartoon. I don’t know what she did, but it’s always been like that.
Kate was also a pretty good main character. I thought the whole “doesn’t like to talk to people” was a little overdone, but it didn’t hinder my enjoyment too much.
I wish they spent a little more time with her brother’s bullying, but since the story wasn’t focused on that, it was well done for the time and space allocated to it.
Diego was charming and adorable. Alana and the Young boy (Frank??) were also really cute together, though I hated that they kissed when they were on dates with other people, even if they weren’t real dates. It’s just common courtesy not to ditch your date to make out with your double date’s date. No? Just me? Okay.
All in all, I really recommend this book!
Have you read it? What did you think? Let’s discuss in the comments!
