Recommendations Based on Words {Contemporary}

Young Adult contemporary books are some of my favourite books to read. I love the feeling it gives me, how light-hearted or deep it can be. I love reading about two characters, always different, always unique, fall in love in different ways. There’s so much to write about for contemporaries, and that results in plenty of books to read.

I read so much contemporary that I’m making a post recommending some of my favourites based on different words that remind me of it!

Let’s get started:

  • Winter: The Chaos of Standing Still by Jessica Brody

Set in an airport during a winter storm, The Chaos of Standing Still is the perfect contemporary to read with a mug of hot chocolate, cozy PJs, and warm blankets.

  • Fall: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

A classic, but nevertheless romantic, Pride and Prejudice never fails to be relevant. Reading this while the leaves are turning colours and the wind picks up would immerse you in the fall experience.

  • Spring: A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi

While the contents of the story might be a bit dark, the colourful cover can give off that freshly bloomed flowers vibe that spring is known for.

  • Summer: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

No one writes contemporary summers like Morgan Matson and The Unexpected Everything has everything you need for a perfect book to read on the beach. From a strong friend group, steamy romance, and self-discovering, all taking place with a backdrop of sun, water, and fun.
