July Wrap-Up: Mystery, Classics, and Weddings

Here’s another wrap-up! This month was actually a god reading month. I’ve read more this month than the last few other months, and it’s made me pretty happy.

There were great books this month so here’s my wrap-up!

Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco

Recommend it?

If you‘re thinking of reading this book then you’ve probably read the previous two. In that case, I would say it’s worth reading. But it’s doesn’t match Hunting Prince Dracula. I found many thing irritating, especially the forced love triangle that was unnecessary. Also the fact that the two boys felt very similar didn’t help matters. The mystery was good, even though I was a bit confused and felt there were some loose strings in the end. They might be wrapped up in the final book but for now, we don’t know. It’s defiantly my least favourite book of the series, but I’m hoping that the finale redeems it!

Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese

Recommend it?

I had to read this for school, and it was actually really good! This story follows an Indigenous boy as he gets taken from his family and out in a residential school, the horrors he faced there, and how it affected his life after. There’s hockey, found family, and an ending that’s good and happy. It’s a defiant must-read.

Sadie by Courtney Summers

Recommend it?

YES! Courtney Summers is a great thriller writer, and she continues to shine a light on the girls who are forgotten or disbelieved, and telling their stories. This book is even better accompanied with the podcast found everywhere podcasts can be heard.

Macbeth by William Shakespeare

Recommend it?

Macbeth is honestly a really good play! I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much, but I did. Especially Lady Macbeth. She’s great.

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

Recommend it?

This book reminds me of Stalking Jack the Ripper, especially with the relationship between the two main characters. Except this is a bit more juvenile. Nevertheless, it’s a great, easy, read for fans of mystery, banter, and Sherlock Holmes.

Legendary by Stephanie Garber

Recommend it?

I’ve finally gotten around to reading Legendary and it did not disappoint! Even though I was worried about reading a whole book from Tella’s point of view, I’ve grown attached to her and quite like her character! I defiantly recommend reading it.

I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maureen Goo

Recommend it?

I laughed so many times while reading this book, it’s ridiculous. While I didn’t enjoy some aspects of the plot (basically manipulating the love interest to fall for the girl) I did love the writing style. I’d defiantly read more from Maureen Goo!

Recommend it?

This might be Morgan Matson’s best book to date. MM’s books get better every time she publishes something new, and I’m glad this one didn’t disappoint. Even though the romance was minimal, the family dynamics and disasters of the wedding, coupled with the humour, made this book very entertaining. And it didn’t even feel that long! I’d defiantly give it a chance.

The Fates Divide by Veronica Roth

Recommend it?

It was fun to see the end of this story, but I’m not holding it close to my heart. I loved the characters but there was much left to be developed, with other parts too developed. I feel like this should’ve been a trilogy and instead Veronica Roth clumped all this information in two books and tried to do too much. I wouldn’t really recommend it unless you’ve absolutely loved the first book!

Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

Recommend it?

I listened to Ash Princess and surprisingly really liked it! I’m not a big audiobook fan, and even though I fell asleep and missed several scenes multiple times, I actually enjoyed it. The loved the narrator, Saskia Maarleveld. I think I would’ve loved it even more if I physically read it, but nevertheless, it was a great fantasy read. I defiantly recommend it!

This is my wrapup for the month! With nine books in total, I’m very proud of this month. What about you? What’s your favourite read of this month? Tell me all about it!

Thank you for reading and see you next time
