Hi everyone!
Long time, no see, I know. Oops.
In my defence, life has been crazy. I’ve barely been able to keep reading, and it’s been so hard to pick up a physical book to read. It’s taking me weeks rather than days, and I’ve found a surprising comfort in e-books lately.
Anyways, I’m back today (not for long, I don’t think) to wrap-up my 2019.
So, without further ado and in chronological order, my favourites reads of 2019:
Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare
As my first book of the year, I was very pleased (and not all that surprised) to have loved this book. I think The Dark Artifices might be the first trilogy I followed from the release date of the first book. I did my waiting, and it paid off in the end. Queen of Air and Darkness was almost 900 pages, and every one of those pages was wonderful.
The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
My first time reading a book in verse, and I stayed up all night to finish it. I could not put the story down, and I eagerly read line after line of this masterpiece. A definite favourite.
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

The Gilded Wolves seems to be one of those books that the more time passes after I’ve read it, the better it becomes. I read this back in February, but it made this list. So very different from Six of Crows, and packed with so much more diversity, action, and knowledge. I just can not wait for The Silvered Serpents. I even have a review!
On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
The Hate U Give was a favourite, and Angie Thomas’ sophomore novel is one too. I was hesitant. I loved The Hate U Give and I really did not want On the Come Up to disappoint. And it didn’t. Instead, I think I like this book even more than The Hate U Give.
Enchantée by Gita Trelease

We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal

I obviously couldn’t make this list without We Hunt the Flame! The first book to ever make me feel seen, and I absolutely loved it.
Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia
This was such an amazing book! I couldn’t put it down, and read and read until I finished it. While there were some minor actions by the love interest that I didn’t like, it didn’t overshadow the magnificent of this book.
With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo
I was hesitant to read this book. Again, I loved The Poet X and what if this isn’t as good as that? But I loved it! I had such trouble studying and focusing on my homework that day because all I wanted to do was read!
If You Come Softly by Jacqueline Woodson
This book is older than what I usually read, but it was so well-written. While I do think it could’ve been more fleshed-out, the message was still so strong and the ending so heart-wrenching that it made it onto this list with a few days of the year left.
And that’s what I loved this year! What about you?
Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
