After reading The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, I realized I loved verse novels. So when I realized this book is written in verse? I just had to read it.
And I’m so glad I did.
This book was fantastic, to say the least. The writing was just magnificent and really “packed a punch” with the delivery. I can only imagine how great it would be if performed, and I think I’ll have to reread this via audiobook soon!
The story itself is unique. I’m a sucker for unique format/stories. I love it when the story takes place in a day or about an instant etc. As each person came onto the elevator and faced Will, more is revealed about his life and the cycle of violence that makes him standing in that elevator, going to do what he is about to do, almost inevitable.
The ending was also different. No spoilers, but I loved it! Even though it was left open-ended and I’m a bit confused, I like to think that he ended up doing the right decision. But who knows? He might be following the same path his brother and father took before him.
All in all, this is a quick read (it took me less than two hours!) that is thoroughly enjoyable. I defiantly recommend it!
Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
