The most valuable thing you can own is the assurance of your place in someone’s heart.

What I’m looking from this book is a light-hearted fun read, something very romantic and requires little to no active thinking on my part. I want something breezy and light, fit for the summer and my fried brain as I near the end of this hellish school year.

It did not deliver.

I mean, insta-love. I hate this trope. I crave the conversations where characters get to know each other. The almost-kisses that get interrupted. I like a bit of slow burn to really make them getting together sweet.

THIS WAS NOT IT.

There was barely any development between Silas and Hollis and it was just so awful. And then when I get used to the idea of them together, he dies.

HE DIES.

I kept thinking it’ll be a joke and surprise! He secretly escaped and is well. But no. The book ended and he’s still dead. The theory is that Hollis will fall for Etan in the next book. To be honest, I think that would be better because at least there is something between them. They talk. And it’s haters to lovers, so need I say more?

Anyways, back to this book. The plot was there, but honestly not interesting at all. I could not care for it.

There’s also the use of an ethnic slur (g-word) and it was so surprising that someone let this be published in this year.

This book would’ve been perfect for 2012 YA. But today? Defiantly not.

All in all, this was not the mindless, fun, romantic book I was expecting but instead an undeveloped hot mess.

Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
