She was constantly being forced to think of herself as the before picture, but when she spoke to her cousin, she saw that the after picture could include her just as she was right now.

I loved When Dimple Met Rishi and so I was super excited for There’s Something About Sweetie! The title itself just gives off really light-hearted and romantic vibes, and the cover? Gorgeous. The big smile, the colours, everything just makes this a perfect summer read.

There’s Something About Sweetie follows Sweetie, a fat Indian-American girl, and Ashish, a hot and muscular Indian-American guy. When Sweetie’s mother refuses to let Sweetie go on a date with Ashish, they decide to do it anyway. Ashish’s parents insist on parent approved dates, though. So throughout the book the two fall in love and learn more about themselves. Ashish deals with his baggage, and Sweetie sets out to prove to herself and the world (especially her mother) that she doesn’t need to be thin to be happy.

I really enjoyed Sweetie and Ashish. They had great chemistry and I just loved how cute they were when thinking about the other. I also enjoyed that they had their own personal development outside of their relationship, and friendships with others. Their character development was great, and I enjoyed seeing them realize what’s important for them. It was really nice to see Ashish re-connect with his culture. I especially love the positive way parents choosing dates is portrayed in the book. It was also really heartwarming to see Ashish grow closer with his parents and realize how much they love him.

I know that the next book in this universe is about Pinky and Samir, so it was really fun to see the setup for their book. I already really like them in this book, so I can’t wait to read their story!

I did find myself getting a bit bored at times. Some of the prose was dense and dragged on. The characters really shone through in this book, though, so that made up for it.

All in all, this was super cute! A perfect summer read.

Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
