June is almost done, which means we’re halfway through this cursed year. I found myself reading a lot more YA contemporary this year than usual. I crave the feel-good feels of a good love story, and a world that is normal and easy to live in. So, since I read a lot of these books this year, I thought to share some of my favourites of this year (so far)!
The Revolution of Birdie Randolph by Brandy Colbert

Birdie is the perfect daughter that does everything her parents want. But she’s falling for a boy that they would never approve of, and she’s getting closer to her estranged aunt. Secrets are revealed and people change in this gripping novel that I absolutely loved.
Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson

After Steph’s death, his sister Jasmine and his two friends Quadir and Jarrell plot to share his music with the world and make him famous. Everyone has something riding on Steph making it, and they all have secrets. This book was both heartbreaking and hopeful, one I loved a lot!
Love From A to Z by S.K. Ali

After getting suspended from school, Zayneb goes to Doha to visit her aunt. There, she meets a sweet boy named Adam who has a secret—he has multiple sclerosis, the same disease that killed his mother. These two Muslim teens fall in love while dealing with what life throws at them, all the while journaling it in their Marvels and Oddities journals.
Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

Pepper and Jack don’t get along, which is obvious from the Twitter war they have as they manage the accounts for their family businesses. Pepper runs the Big League Burger’s account, a fast food chain while Jack runs his family’s small deli account. What they don’t expect is to fall in love through this all, in a super cute romantic story!
Jackpot by Nic Stone

Rico is busy with school and her after school job while also trying to take care of her younger brother. When she sells a winning lotto ticket that goes unclaimed, she sets out on a mission to find the women who has it while enlisting the help of Zan, her popular and rich classmate. Along the way Rico meets people and experiences things she never imagined. This is defiantly a favourite!
Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman

Kiko doesn’t get into her dream art school and with a stifling home life, she decides to escape by going to California. There, with her childhood best friend, she tours more art schools and learns more about herself. She learns to accept and love her Japanese half and the beauty she has. This is such a heartfelt and beautiful story that absolutely captured my heart!
Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka

Megan’s boyfriends always end up finding their true love after dating her, and so she’s convinced she won’t have her one true love. But after getting casted as Juliette in the school’s production of Romeo and Juliette, she’s shown her own importance with the help of Owen. I loved this book and the way Shakespeare and the play played a big part in it. Megan and Owen are absolutely adorable and have my heart!
These six books absolutely won my heart and I can’t wait to see what more favourites I will encounter in the next half of the year!
Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
