As a blogger, I blog about a variety of things. My most frequent posts though, are reviews. Book bloggers, and readers in general, review books all the time. This could be either in the form of review on an Instagram post/story, blog review, Goodreads review, or even just talking about the book with someone else.
But are my reviews super prefound, critical analysis of books?
Hahahahahahahaha, no.
Absolutely not.
I honestly don’t even know what I write in my reviews. I just gush about the characters, the romance, or say that I didn’t like it. Often, I’d include a specific thing that I liked/disliked. I feel like it’s mostly just generic words, especially since I write non-spoiler reviews most of the time and can’t go into deep details.
Does that make me any less of a reviewer than someone who dissects a book? No. It just makes me different, and this review would serve a different purpose for someone. It’s mostly for other reviews to see if it’s something that will appeal to them. It’s non-spoiler and often includes things that I personally look for in reviews to decide if I should read this book or not.
It’s like the “write the book you want to read.” I don’t really read long reviews, and so why would I write them? Unless I actually really like the book and have much to talk about (which doesn’t happen often, and mostly for books that I didn’t like or made me angry), my reviews are a few hundred words. Short and sweet.
It honestly does not matter how profound your reviews are. For me, if even one person reads it and it helps them know if this book is something they might like or not, that is good for me.
Thank you for reading, and see you next time!
