FROM BLOOD AND ASH
Author(s): Jennifer L. Armentrout
Stand-alone or Series: Blood and Ash #1

This is defiantly not what I expected! First, it was much longer than I thought it was going to be (700+ e-book pages for me) and that I’m used to reading lately. I honestly contemplated not starting it. I’m glad I did though! Second, it’s a lot more explicit/mature than I thought. Like that first chapter? Damn. I think this is new adult/adult? I went in thinking it’s YA, oops.
Nevertheless, I didn’t hate it! On the contrary! I actually really enjoyed this. Even though it had a lot of descriptions and talking, which is something that often bores me, I didn’t mind it. I could get through a bunch of pages at a time without being overwhelmed by the sheer number of words.
The characters were pretty good. I do think Poppy is a bit of an idiot at times, but overall I wasn’t too frustrated with her. Hawke was also a great character and the many layers and mysteries that he had made for a very compelling read. And together? These two had very good chemistry and I really enjoyed reading their interactions with one another.
I did guess the twist with his character though, but I was more happy to figure it out than screaming in frustration at how obvious it is.
The world is vast and the twist at the end—which I did not see coming—made it all the more interesting. I’m really excited to discover more of it in the sequel!
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and would defiantly recommend it!
My final rating is:

Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
