Even though many people expressed their dislike for the second half of this series, I could not imagine the story ending at Ignite Me. I found myself loving the backstory and all the new books.
This was a bit disappointing though.
I absolutely loved Ella. Defy Me Ella was my favourite and I enjoyed that book a lot. There was a lot of character development and it was so nice to see her happy and comfortable in her own skin. But this book? It was like hitting replay or pause and we temporarily lost all that progress. It made getting through her chapters pretty hard, and were a bit boring to be honest.
The Kenji chapters were amazing, and his constant jokes and inner monologue were as amazing as ever. But we were served crumbs, literal crumbs, of him with Nazeera. And how come we didn’t get an ending chapter or a glimpse into their happy, content selves in a relationship? There has to be a novella or something, because that ending was too abrupt.
I would have liked more Warner chapters. To see into his mind while Ella was taken away would have added a lot to the book. His chapters at the end of the book were so cute.
Also, not much really happened? I feel like there was a lot of description in this book as opposed to others and a lot less of the fun interactions between the cast of characters that I know and love. I can usually excuse plot-less books as long as there’s that character interaction but this one was seriously lacking.
It’s with a heavy heart I give this book three stars because I loved the Shatter Me series so much. I’ve been with this series for almost four years now and it’s so sad that the ending wasn’t one I could enjoy. Even though the ending by all means is happy. Aaron and Ella get married. I assume Kenji and Nazeera get into a relationship. Everyone is happy and healthy. It’s the way it was given that wasn’t satisfying. But nevertheless, it’s the end of an era.
Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
