The synopsis of this book intrigued me and promised a great love story. I’ve also been wanting to read a Jason Reynolds novel for awhile, and thought this would be a perfect one to start with.

And it was!

Although the events in the synopsis and the love interest didn’t show up until halfway through the book, which is something I hate in books, I quite liked it!

I loved how Matt was able to talk about his feelings, and I just loved how excited he was when he started getting to know Love and going out with her. His emotions and grief with his mother’s death is well done, and he’s not ashamed to cry and grieve. It’s always nice to read from a guy’s perspective and see him actually feel without much of the toxic “I’m a guy so I don’t need to feel” bullshit.

Mr. Ray and Chris were great supporting characters! I loved how they had their own characters and lives, but still were there for Matt and helped him with whatever he needed.

The way everything fit together, and the connections found between all the characters were great! Jason Reynolds did a great job with it all, and I don’t want to spoil, so you just have to read the book to find that out.

Overall, I do wish Love was introduced earlier in the book, but nevertheless the set-up and events that occurred gave more life to the book. At the end, I did enjoy this book and found myself laughing and having fun. I defiantly recommend it!

Thank you for reading and see you next time ❤
